eating in genova
As you all know, Italians are famous for their 'wine and dine' culture.
The vast majority of places charge service for a fixed amount per person (called coperto), in Italy. A trattoria, cafe or bar will not charge this fee for lunch, and this is often a good place to get pasta or a sandwich in the afternoon. Restaurants are open from approximately 12:30 - 3:00PM for lunch and 7:30 - 10:00PM for dinner. The Ligurian presents cuisine that is modern in approach and one of the most original and addictively delicious specialties of northern Italian cuisine. Liguria's most famous specialities are pesto and focaccia, which is served both plain - flavoured only with olive oil - and in an array of tasty variations
Foccacia di Recco
Foccacia hails from a small town called 'Recco', that you pass on the hour-long train ride from Genoa to the scenic Cinque Terra. This is a thin pizza crust embedded with stracchino, a soft yet somewhat sharp cow’s milk cheese. The original stuffed crust. Pesto Sauce
It’s all about the herb, its a sauce originating in Genoa in the Liguria region of northern Italy (pesto genovese), and traditionally consists of crushed garlic, basil, and European pine nuts blended with olive oil, Parmigiano Reggiano (Parmesan cheese), and Fiore Sardo (cheese made from sheep's milk). |
INDIAN STORES
You may wish to cook at home after the initial excitement of Italian food is over.
The dairy products are available at the supermarkets like Carrefour, Basco, Coop etc. As you explore the stores, you may find more items of your interest and tastes. For the typical Indian products like masalas, chillies, peculiar veggies and frozen parathas, there are couple of stores spread across the city. There are in 3 major Indian Stores in Genova
