Before coming to Italy,
- Check that the 'surname place' in your passport is not vacant, if yes, please get it done/rectify it in India inselft (In Italy this process is very tedious and will a take long time)
- Make sure, that either your wife’s name is included in your passport (Spouse name) or your name in your wife’s passport
- If you have children, get their passports ready before you leave for Italy
- Marriage certificate should be legalized and translated in Italian language and authenticated by the Italian consulate (Kindly follow the step 3 and step 6 from the study visa procedure)
- If you have children, their birth certificates should be translated in Italian and authenticated by the Italian consulate (Kindly follow the step 3 and step 6 from the study visa procedure)

A step by step process for the family reunification
- Apply for Codice Fiscale (Check the 'Once in Genova' section for the procedure)
- Apply for a Permit of Stay - Permesso Di Soggiorno (Check the 'Once in Genova' section for the procedure)
- Sign a lease that is registered at 'Agenzia delle Entrate' (rent a house)
- Apply for 'Residenza certificate' - Residence Certificate (the procedure is explained in 'Once in Genova section')
- Apply for 'Certificato Idoneita Allogiativa' - proof of suitability of house for another person (the procedure is explained in 'Once in Genova section')
- Apply for Tessera Sanitaria - Health card (the procedure is explained in 'Once in Genova section')
- Once you have above documents ready, you can apply for Nulla Osta, which is issued by 'Prefettura Immigration Office' through online application system. ( You may take help of administration office of your institute, as it is in ITALIAN)
- The 'Prefettura Immigration Office' will contact the applicant and give him/her an appointment at the immigration desk at Prefettura for document verification.
- Once the 'Prefettura Immigration Officers have processed the application, they will contact the applicant to issue the Nulla Osta. Same will be sent to the Consulate/Embassy where the family members live. The original documents must be sent to the family members for VISA application.
- Once the VISA is issued, and the family members are in Italy, they must apply for their own permit of stay

- Residenza Certificate
- Certificato Idoneita Allogiativa
- Offer letter of PhD/PDF (Proof of Income)
- Passport Copy
- Codice Fiscale Copy
- Spouse's Passport Copy
- Child's Passport copy
- Copy of the Certificate of Marriage translated and legalized at the Italian consulate/embassy
- Copy of child's birth certificate translated and legalized at the Italian consulate/embassy (where the child's was born)
- Document signed by landlord + with landlord's ID
